Distance between two points
The command DIST can determine the distance between two points in the CAD space. It is useful when the UCS is not aligned to the current drawing view and therefore the dimensioning function can't be used without aligning the UCS.
Important: The first specified point will take the role of center of the UCS. The values for the distance between the points in XYZ axis will be positive, if the second specified point is located in the positive quadrant of the UCS and vice versa.
Measuring in different views
The CAD-Features menu contains tools which allows the user to take measurements in different views as well as to set the UCS to the chosen view.
- Go to the Main Data (1) and in the menu CAD-Features choose in which view (2) to take measurements (Top/Bottom/Left/Right/Front/Back)
- Click on the dropdown button (3) to adjust the user coordinate system (UCS). Next click on the dropdown button (4) to choose a dimension method (Linear, Angled, Radius, Angular, etc.)
Quick part dimensioning
The function Part Dimensioning Quick allows the user to highlight the part to measure. The selected part will be dimensioned in top view. Before using the Part Dimensioning Quick you have to set the scale in the model space to the scale that is suitable for the drawing output.
- Insert the article in the workspace via the iX Design Manager or from the Article Center
- On the right side of the status bar the scale can be adjusted
In our example picture below the scale is set to 1:4 - Go to Main Data (1) and from the panel Tools click on the dropdown button (2) to select the function Part Dimensioning Quick
- The user will be prompt to select a part. The selected part will be dimensioned in top view.
In the example picture below the part dimensions are shown as well as the distances between the different machinings on the part. - To exit the part dimensioning click on Return Part Dimensioning located in the Ribbon menu
